The Government will hold week-long cultural performances in Bangkok and the other 76 provinces from 22 to 28 May 2019 to celebrate the Coronation of King Rama X.
Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchararat said that, in Bangkok, the cultural performances will take place at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground. The opening ceremony on 22 May will be televised on the Thai TV Global Network for viewers in 170 countries worldwide.
It begins at 18.30 hr, with Thai classical dance, the khon masked drama, and folk dances from the four regions of the country. Other performances during the seven-day period include concerts, a light and sound show, puppet theater, folk music, and traditional performing arts.
There will be three stages. The main stage is in the middle of Sanam Luang, with performances taking place from 18.30 to 21.30 hr. The two other stages are located on the side of the Supreme Court and Thammasat University, with performances taking place between 17.30 and 18.30 hr. The light and sound presentation will be held from 21.30 to 23.00 hr.
On 27 May, there will be an international performance festival in honor of His Majesty the King. Participating in this festival are 10 countries, namely Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, and Vietnam.
On 28 May, there will be a procession from the four regions of the country to offer floral offerings in honor of His Majesty, drum performances, and other cultural shows.
